As part of our Art and Essay Contest, each student is required to write a 200-word essay and create an accompanying art piece on a specific topic. The winners of the contest will receive a special gift and will have their name and picture featured on our website and social media flyers. It is imperative that all essays and art pieces be submitted by the deadline date. To submit entries, please email both the essay and art piece to the following email address: safediversity@gmail.com. We encourage all participants to put forth their best effort and showcase their creativity and talent through this contest.

1. Essay: What was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. doing when he was assassinated supporting sanitary waste management workers?
2. Environmental and Climate Justice: Who is your favorite environmental famous black hero? (Hint: one of them lives in Houston)
Art: Draw a picture of your favorite black history hero.
MARCH AWARENESS
Write a 200-word essay.
1. Essay: How does environmental justice affect people with Multiple Sclerosis, developmental disabilities, Myeloma, Colon Cancer, or Kidney Disease?
2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: Write a 200-word essay on: What is the Texas Center for Justice and Equity?
Art: Draw a picture of Reflections on Women’s History.
APRIL AWARENESS
Write a 200-word essay.
1. Essay: How does cyber bullying affect someone with
autism or anxiety and depression?
2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: How does environmental and climate justice affect youth and family hidden mental health?
Art: Draw a picture of an Autism child and family.
JUNE AWARENESS

1. Essay: How does a senior citizen with Alzheimer’s, Men’s Health, Migraine Headaches, or Scoliosis affect a family’s everyday life?
2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: What does environmental EPA stand for?
Art: Create an image on U.S. Veterans returning home with PTSD.
JULY AWARENESS

1. Essay: What are your College Goals and your plans for the next four years?
2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: How can environmental scholarship funds help you in your college career?
Art: Create a vision board of you graduating from college in the next four years.
AUGUST AWARENESS

1. Essay: Write an essay about your checklist for preparing to go off to school or college.
2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay: How important it is to study environmental and climate injustice while in college?
Art: Create an art image of Healthy Vision.
SEPTEMBER AWARENESS

Art: Draw a picture of your family having Thanksgiving Dinner together.

1. Essay: What does it mean to you to share gifts with your family and friends at Christmas?
2. Environmental & Climate Justice Essay:
What are the most significant agricultural problems caused by climate change?
Art: Create an art on giving presents to a less fortunate family at Christmas.
